Rhodell Wv
Rhodell is an unincorporated community in Raleigh County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 173 at the 2010 census. It was incorporated in 1937 as a town, but on June 13, 2017, Rhodell residents voted 33-13 to dissolve the town. The town reverted to an unincorporated portion of Raleigh County on July 1, 2017. Rhodell is the only incorporated town on Stonecoal Creek or Winding Gulf Creek. The original name of the town was Rhodesdale. There were two coal mines operating simultaneously on each end of Rhodell. The Francis mine at Rhodell was opened by the E.C. Minter Coal Co. in 1921, and the Rhodell Coal Co. opened the mine at the southern end of town, also known as Stonecoal Junction, in 1918. Rhodell, West Virginia (WV), a community in Raleigh County, was platted in 1907, incorporated in 1937, and named for I. J. Rhodes, a prominent coal operator in the region. Rhodell is situated at the junction of Tommy Creek and Stonecoal Creek approximately one mile northwest of the junction of Tommy Creek and Winding Gulf Creek at the Guyandotte River. Rhodell has been hit many times by arson burning church school town hall and businesses.
